Marine Application
Marine Engineering
Corrosion-resistant cable ties for marine and offshore applications. Saltwater environments demand ties that resist pitting, crevice corrosion, and UV degradation for shipboard wiring, offshore platform instrumentation, and dockside installations.
Why Marine Engineering Needs Specialized Cable Ties
The marine environment combines salt spray, continuous UV exposure, and constant motion — a triple threat to cable management. Standard nylon ties absorb moisture and degrade within months of saltwater exposure. Even standard stainless steel can suffer pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich marine atmospheres, especially in tropical waters above 25°C.
Our marine-grade ties include Type 316 stainless steel for superior pitting resistance in chloride environments and UV-stabilized Nylon 12 for non-metallic applications. Nylon 12 absorbs 70% less moisture than Nylon 6.6, maintaining dimensional stability and tensile strength in high-humidity marine conditions. Both options provide 20+ year service life in offshore installations.

Key Challenges in Marine Engineering
Understanding the specific demands helps select the right cable tie for each application.
Saltwater Corrosion
Type 304 stainless ties pit and fail within 2-5 years in marine atmospheres. Type 316 with molybdenum addition provides the chloride resistance needed for long-term saltwater service.
Moisture Absorption
Nylon 6.6 absorbs up to 8% moisture by weight in marine conditions, swelling and losing up to 30% tensile strength. Nylon 12 absorbs under 2%, maintaining mechanical properties in wet environments.
Classification Society Requirements
Shipboard installations must meet ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register, and other classification society standards for materials in marine service. Our marine-grade ties are suitable for class-approved installations.
