Step 1: Measure Cable OD
Measure the outer diameter of your cable with calipers. The gland clamping range must cover this diameter. For oval cables, use the largest dimension.
Step 2: Determine IP Rating
IP65: dust-tight + water jet. IP66: powerful water jet. IP67: temporary immersion. IP68: continuous immersion. Standard nylon glands are IP68. Select based on your installation environment.
Step 3: Choose Thread Type
Metric (M12-M63): most common globally. PG (Pg7-Pg48): legacy European standard. NPT: North American tapered pipe thread. G/PF (BSPP): British Standard Pipe Parallel.
Step 4: Select Material
PA66 nylon: lightweight, cost-effective, IP68. Nickel-plated brass: EMC shielding, high temperature. Stainless steel 304/316: corrosive environments, food grade, marine.
Step 5: Consider EMC Requirements
For electromagnetic compatibility, choose nickel-plated brass or stainless steel glands with conductive inserts. These provide 360-degree shielding continuity between cable braid and enclosure.
