Step 1: Calculate Fill Capacity
Determine total cross-sectional area of all wires. Select duct with 40-60% fill (allows future expansion). For control panels, 40% fill is standard per NFPA 79.
Step 2: Choose Slot Pattern
Narrow finger: dense wiring, clean look. Wide finger: large cables, easy access. Solid wall: maximum protection, no side exit. The finger design determines how easily wires can enter/exit the duct.
Step 3: Select Material
PVC: standard, economical, UL94 V-0. Polyphenylene Oxide (PPO): higher temperature, low smoke. Polycarbonate: transparent, high impact. Halogen-free: LSZH applications.
Step 4: Determine Mounting
Standard base: screw/rivet mount. Adhesive base: no-drill installation. DIN rail mount: quick installation/removal. Snap-together: modular assembly.
Step 5: Check Standards
UL 1565: recognized component. CSA C22.2: Canadian standard. IEC 61084: international standard. EN 50085: European standard. Verify flammability rating matches your panel requirements (V-0, V-2, HB).
